Thought For The Soul
The Love of Money

Christ the Anchor

For the love of money is the root of all evil; which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 1 Timothy 6:10

Money today is a very touchy subject for whatever reason. There are many people that shy from learning GOD'S word by going to church because they say all these churches do is ask for money. The problem I have with that is that when we have secular clubs or go to a gym, we seem not to have problem with paying dues. But yet we cannot seem to want to tithe to a church who uses that money for the work of the LORD.

Some people are turned off to TV evangelist. Now some of them are phonies but some are not. People seem to judge these TV evangelist by how much money they are making. Let me ask my readers this. Does a TV repairman get money for what he does? How about a lawyer, banker, grocery store clerk etc? The answer is absolutely. So why is it so hard to want to support your pastor or the work of the LORD. We pay taxes every year and yet we can't seem to give a few dollars toward the work of our LORD.

Now you are probably wondering what this has to do with the love of money. Here it is. All these reasons not to tithe, or be turned off Just because a minister of GOD is doing well comes down to one thing. The love of Money. We are jealous because we don't make as much as our pastor or a TV evangelist. We want to have money but do not want to earn it. Those Evangelists spends hours in the Word, and away from their family to spread the gospel over the television waves. They bring GOD'S word into millions of homes where there are people who cannot get out of their homes to here the word of GOD.

Now let us now get to the base of the problem. Money is not the problem. There are those poor misguided souls that live their lives in poverty because they have misquoted or been misquoted that verse. GOD'S word says the "THE LOVE OF MONEY" not money is the root of all evil. It is the driving force of some people in their lives. Instead of having faith in GOD to provide our needs we tend to want to rely on the almighty dollar. If you love money it becomes your god, and GOD said, Thou shall have no other god's before me. Therefore it becomes a sin. If you become wealthy because of GOD'S blessings, and or because of a lot of good old fashioned hard honest work. That is all right. But if you are poor, That is all right too when your eyes are on JESUS. We who know JESUS as our personal LORD and SAVIOR will all be wealthy beyond our wildest dreams when we get to heaven.

So you see it is not money that is evil but the love of it. Matthew 6:19-34, in JESUS' own words, explains this mystery very plainly. HE tells us rather than depend on Money, depend on HIM. In this same passage JESUS tell us we cannot serve two masters. We will hate the one and love the other. We cannot serve GOD and Money.

If we love money and serve it and whether we admit it or not worship it. We hate GOD. JESUS said it plain and simple. But money itself is not evil, I cannot say it enough, it is the love of money that gets us into trouble. So dear brothers and sisters in CHRIST, Whether you are rich or poor, keep your eyes on JESUS. And thank him for what you have great or small.
