Thought For The Soul
When God Calls You

Christ the Anchor

How do we know that God has called us to His service? That's a good question. Some may believe that being called to God's service is to be called to preach His Word before a congregation of people in a church. Some may believe that being called to God's service is to be called to be missionaries in other countries. These are both correct, but there are so many other ways God calls us to His service, some seemingly much more insignificant to man, but not to God.

All are not called to preach the Word or to be missionaries or to sing or to teach. But we are all, as Christians, called to witness for Christ. There are so many ways to witness for God. Whatever the way is that God calls us each or as a family to be in His service, that is the way God intends for us to witness for Him.

Some witness for Christ by going door to door, telling of God's love for us. Some witness by writing as God would have them and other's read their words. Still others preach the Word to an audience, while others sings their heart out for God. Then there are those that may not talk as much of God, yet their daily life is a witness to Christ. And there is the internet, with chat rooms and web pages, a great witness to Christ with an untold number of people seeing God's Word with the click of a mouse.

Not all of us are called to do the same thing or same work for God. Some are truly called to do great things for God, to be known and seen of the world. Some have beautiful voices and are well known and their service for God is well known.

But then there are those seemingly smaller or lesser known works for God. God calls us all to do different things for Him, and a larger work is no more blessed than the smaller work. We give all the glory to God for all He does, great and small.

When God calls you to His service, it will not be wrong or trivial. Some are of the mistaken impression that if they are not doing a well known long term great work, then it is not of God. Do not be mistaken, God does no wrong, nor does God call any of us to His service, to witness for Him, wrongly. God calls us to the work HE wants us to do, for however long it might be, not the work WE or MAN wants to do, or the time we might want.

God will call you alone or you as a family to witness for Him, to be in His service. If you are called and you neglect God's call, or you do not do as God bids you to do because for instance the spouse does not want to go where God calls you to do, it could mean a lifetime of misery, of sadness, of never truly being happy or at peace. We can never be happy, truly happy outside of God's will. And to neglect God's call is to be outside of God's will for our lives.

In closing, listen for God to talk to your heart and then follow that bidding from God. The call of God, to bide by His Word and witness for Him as HE wishes and where HE wishes, is to have the peace and joy and true happiness that can only come from God.
