Thought For The Soul
Thank You Mom!
By John and Cindy Thomas

Christ the Anchor

Proverbs 31:28a Her children arise up, and call her blessed. When was the last time we said "THANK YOU MOM"?. I wonder how many of us take the time to pick up the phone and call our mom's for other than give me this or what do I do about that?

I think that mothers in general are wonderful and are taken for granted by all of us. We only think of our mothers when we are hurting, sad, mad, or in need of a hand out. But when was the last time we just talked to her? Some of us put our mothers in a nursing home out of convenience. What if she had put you up for adoption just for convenience?

How many tears have our mothers shed over us, how many sleepless nights has she gone through because we were so thoughtless and came home after the time requested. How many of us as kids, remember being hugged or patched up, or rocked in our mothers arms, as she comforted us. How many times has our mothers expressed genuine joy over a simple accomplishment on our parts. I wonder how many times our mothers have said to us, "No one is perfect, I know you will do better next time."

I remember a time as a kid that I built something out of popsicle sticks for my mom. She raved over it and yes even put it out for all to see. In fact she still has it to this day. The thing is as I think back to that time, that thing I built was ugly, but in her eyes it was a beautiful creation from me. How many times do we do something for our mothers instead of demanding things from them?

My mom has stood up for me countless times and has come to my rescue so many times I cannot remember them all. She has given me wise council and even helped me pick the pieces up when I ignored that council. My mom has always accepted me just as I am. Other than the wonderful wife I have now, who is also a wonderful mother to her children, she is the only woman that has ever fully and completely understood me and still loved me.

I cannot understand the deep love a mother has for her children, but I can appreciate it. I have the best mom a man could have and I hope there are others out there that would disagree and say they have the best mom a person could have.

Deuteronomy 5:16 Honor thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it maygo well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. How many of us really do honor our fathers and mothers? Since this is Mothers day my emphasis is on our mothers. Don't wait for Mothers day to pick up the phone or go to your mom and say "I love you Mom!", and thank her for every thing she has done for you.

Finally I would like to end on a personal note. I love you mom, for all the wonderful things you have done for me. All the things you have meant to me. THANK YOU MOM!
